The Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs recently held consultations regarding the development of a new Energy Policy for Trinidad and Tobago. It was the intention of the Point Fortin/South Western Chamber of Industry & Commerce to respond to the Ministry's request for feedback, in the form of a balanced and objective report on the development of the Southwest Peninsula, which we would submit by the prescribed deadline.
To this end, the Chamber hosted a Southwest Energy Symposium on February 16, 2011 at the Paria Suites Hotel, La Romain. The focus of the symposium was an examination of and discussion on some of the proposed energy-based ventures in the southwestern peninsula, and teh determination of an effective decision model. The size and composition of the attending audience was structured to create an intimate and interactive atmosphere that would facilitate meaningful dialogue. As such, approximately thirty (30) professionals were invited to attend. Light refreshments were served from 8:00AM, to facilitate a prompt start at 9:00AM. Lunch was also served at the conclusion of the formalities.
Our panel of experts from the fields of economics, environment and engineering also provided an enabling atmosphere for valuable contributions, by sharing their perspectives and knowledge of some of the potential energy-based industries for the South Western Peninsula. The topics stimulated healthy solution-oriented discussion, with the ultimate intention of bringing added value to the Ministry’s undertaking.
All attendees found this Energy Symposium to be a worthwhile enterprise, as we came together to present to the Ministry of Energy a clear, objective and rational contribution which reflected a collective vision for the development of a sustainable energy industry in the Southwestern Peninsula.
We wish to thank all participants for making this a success; with special thanks to our Symposium Committee members, and our Corporate supportors:
Proman AG, Methanol Holdings, NEC, NGC, Petrotrin, Alutrint and Atlantic.
