The Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley in his address to the nation laid out the challenges the country was facing at this time and the measures his Government intends to take to weather the storm. As expected, the proposed measures were the subject of conversations on virtually all the call-in radio programs and the comments expressed ranged from cautious understanding to disgust and even ridicule.
Whichever side of the arguments one may wish to take, the bottom line is we all have to batten down in preparation for what appears to be a very challenging economic voyage.
The Point Fortin South Western Chamber of Industry & Commerce has already expressed the view that the economic challenges facing us at this time also present an opportunity for creativity and innovation. We are therefore inviting the business community in the South Western peninsula including the micro and small business enterprises to get on board with us NOW, as we seek to discover the opportunities that are undoubtedly buried in the challenges ahead.
The Chamber intends to convene several forums beginning in January 2016

On Thursday November 05, 2015 the newly installed Chamber Executive paid a courtesy call on the Member of Parliament for La Brea and the Minister of Energy, Ms. Nicole Olivierre.
Since the Chamber also incorporates the La Brea area, the Executive saw the wisdom in extending greetings to the new MP and Minister of Energy.
During the brief meeting the Chamber reiterated its commitment to the development of the South Western Peninsula, and its willingness to work with the Minister toward the achievement of that goal.
At a follow up meeting yet to be scheduled, the Chamber plans to present the Minister with an official document regarding the South Western Peninsula.
From L to R: Deo Gosine, George Alexis, Member of Parliament for La Brea and the Minister of Energy, Ms. Nicole Olivierre, Davita Simon, Nigel Minors and Jane Sutherland.
